Prepare to have your mind blown as today's audio podcast with Dr. Dominic D' Agostino takes a deep dive into ketosis - showing you how navy seals, extreme athletes and even busy executives can enhance physical and mental performance by using the secret weapon of ketones.
During this interview with Dr. D' Agostino, you're going to discover...
-Why extreme Navy Seals are using ketosis...
-Can you get into ketosis by eating ketones (and still consuming high amounts of carbohydrates) instead of eating a high fat, low carb diet?
-How ketosis can be used to control diseases such as cancer, Alzheimers, ALS...
-The mechanism by which ketones can "juice up your brain"...
-How ketosis can enhance blood vessel dilation and wound healing...
-Whether the consumption of ketones is actually safe...
-How to improve your oxygen efficiency with ketone intake...
-Why ketones can be used to enhance mental performance and not just exercise function...
-Practical ways you can use keto salts and ketones to enhance physical performance...
-And much more!
Dr. Dominic D’Agostino, PhD (pictured right) is an assistant professor at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. He teaches courses in molecular pharmacology and physiology, and maintains involvement in several studies researching metabolic treatments for neurological disorders such as seizures, Alzheimer’s, ALS, and cancer—all of which are metabolically linked. His entry in to this field began when, in 2007, the Office of Naval Research funded his study into seizures related to oxygen toxicity experienced by Navy SEAL divers using closed-circuit breathing apparatus. At this juncture, he came across the ketogenic diet, which has already been confirmed as an effective treatment for epilepsy and a variety of seizure disorders. He is now studying how this same ketogenic diet and the use of ketones can be used to enhance physical and mental performance.

Thanks for a great epiosode, I'm gonna learn this one by heart :-) I have one question though, that I haven't managed to find a solution to anywhere. I've been in and out of ketosis for about 3 years now, and I really enjoy the energy both mentally and physically that I get from it, but the problem is I get a rash after a few days – some kind of hives or urticaria. I've seen it referred to as ketosis rash, ketosis urticaria etc. on the web. I get it on my chest and under my armpits, and it's symmetrical on both sides of my body. I've been to a few doctors to try to find a solution, but they refuse to see the connection between being in ketosis and this skin condition – although I know for sure there is one. One doctor even suggested that since I choose to be in ketosis then it really is my problem, but for me being in ketosis is being in a superior state that I would like to be in most of the time if it hadn't been for the rash.
If you google ketosis rash, you'll find lots of people with the same problem – but never any experts who can shed a light on what this truly is and how to get rid of it. Some people claim it's because of toxins in the fatty acids that are released and that this happens the first time you're in ketosis, but since I still have this problem after 3 years that's clearly not the case.
When I exercise it gets worse, so I'm thinking there's got to be something in my sweat that irritates the skin. But I don't know if it's the ketones themselves, or if it's because I'm losing minerals or something of that nature which then allows for bacteria in the skin to flourish. I haven't tried antihistamines since I'm not sure if being in the state of ketosis outweighs the downsides of antihistamines, so what I've done so far is to get out of ketosis when the rash gets too severe – which is a short term solution at least.
Since you're in contact with so many great individuals who do research on this subject, I'm sure somebody must have come across this problem in their work or maybe even experienced it themselves. Any help would be greatly appriciated!
Thank so much, looking forward to hearing your answer on this!
